My name is Niven Murray and my wifes name is Sandra. Most of my life I have been involved in looking after various animals. It started like most people with household pets such as cats, dogs and rabbits. This later developed into a small holding with an extended menagerie of sheep, goats, chickens and even a rather lovely pig, who the children rather predictably named Miss Piggy!
Then last year I had the opportunity to design, build and run my own cattery, so I jumped at the challenge. I started by studying cat welfare, this was a course run by the Feline Advisory Bureau Then I gave up my job as a civil servant in order to become the site and project manager. My wife helped with the design of the building and we set about organising the workforce.
We were determined that if we were going to do it, we wanted it to be the best we could. The chalets had to be custom made to our very exact and specific designs. We had to take into consideration everything our cats need to be safe and comfortable. We installed heating and insulated each bedroom unit to make them warm and cosy for winter months. They each have a seperate run so the cats can get out in the fresh air whilst still protected from the rain. The large brick built reception area has complete wheelchair access allowing disabled clients to perform a thorough inspection of our facilities. We also thought it prudent to have two kitchens, one sterile kitchen for the preparation and storage of food. The second kitchen would be for all the dirty jobs such as cleaning litter trays and such. We all know how fragile cats can be to illness and stress; it is because of this we came up with the theory that all cats must be treated as a member of our extended family.
We adore animals and when you meet us and see our cattery, we are sure you will agree with us that we have achieved our goal in creating a beautiful cattery
Thank-you for reading
